DVD Roundup!

I don't normally do these, I'll admit, but this month with me having yet another medial issue (seriously, they should take me out to pasture by now!) and a stack of DVDs to sift through, I figured this was the best option to make sure everyone got fair consideration. A lot of great stuff out this month, from Phineas and Ferb to My Little Pony, with some classics thrown in the mix as well.

That said, here is the February - March 2013 DVD Round-up, brought to you by About.com!

Also keep an eye out for my interview with Phineas and Ferb creators, Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh! Coming soon!

Interview with Sarah Finn, Exec. Producer of Strawberry Shortcake

I recently got a chance to talk with Sarah Finn, the Executive Producer for The Hub's Strawberry Shortcake series about all the fantastic news going on with Strawberry and the gang. If you missed it, they recently brought back Huckleberry Pie (the boy!) and have kicked off the third season on Saturday mornings. TV Boy finally agreed to watch the show now that there is a boy AND he came with dogs... right up his alley!

Slugterra DVD Review

Yes, it's yet another cartoon where people use magical animals in battle against one another. This time, we get adorable little squeaky slugs as our ammo of choice in Slugterra, a DisneyXD series.

I'm not sure I'm a fan of this emerging genre, which I have dubbed "The Pokemon Effect", but it must really resonate with the young boy demographic, because they sure keep making them.

It really isn't bad. The CGI is actually gorgeous and the slugs are pretty cute, for being, well, slugs.

Strawberry Shortcake returns with new episodes!

Strawberry Shortcake's Berry Bitty Adventures is back with a new season on The Hub starting this Saturday! This season brings about one big change: there's a BOY in the Berry Patch!

Huckleberry Pie has returned to the series! He's bringing some adorable puppy friends for all the girls too! TV Boy has seen the episodes and actually wasn't complaining about watching it for a change... a boy and dogs: he was in heaven.

The BIG Coronation Concert!

From my Instagram.
So, did you follow along on Instagram with my live-blogging of my first major media event? Barring a harrowing journey home on Sunday (which included our second plane being just a little bit hit by lightning! Yikes!), it was the most incredible thing I've been a part of to date. Heck, it was worth the 12 hours and three planes worth of flying on two separate days just to see Halle Berry's daughter hitting her mother in the face with a plastic wand like my own child was doing to me while we all wore plastic tiaras. Or to see Jason Priestly tell the photographers that he answers to his son above all while they wore adorable matching argyle sweaters.

I bet you want to know what it was like. Well, you're going to have to check out my About.com article for all the details. TV Boy had a blast and everyone commented on how adorable his "My Little Brony" t-shirt was.

Now, for the details of the trip... we left Columbus on Friday at about 1:30 EST, and landed in Burbank, CA at 9:30 PST. Other than a minor mishap with TV Boy and I not being seated together on the second plane trip (there was a total of three each way), and us being seated next to the lavatory on the tiniest plane I've ever been on for the last leg, the trip was mostly uneventful.

The way back, however, makes me wish that Star Trek transporters were already invented and I never had to fly again. Let's see... the first flight of the day, other than being at stupid-o'clock (take-off time of 7:15 am PST), was uneventful. The second plane.... hoo boy! We took off in a snow storm. We were seated next to a guy who smelled like tuna salad (gag!) and was so tall he barely fit in the seat, so we couldn't get up. Then, about 20 minutes before we landed amidst a thunderstorm in Atlanta, our plane was hit by lightning and we just straight dropped for about 2 seconds. TV Boy thought it was the most fun ride EVER and me, well, let's just say I'll probably need to be sedated should I ever have to fly somewhere again. Take-off for the last leg of the trip in the same storm was equally terrifying, and I was exhausted on top of it all because we had to run from one end of the Atlanta airport to the other... literally. Landed in T1 terminal, took off from the last door in the E terminal. Yes, I know there's a train in the airport, but it didn't help! I was lugging two suitcases and a small child.

Yes, landed in T1, connected in E35!
To top that lovely run off, I had 20 minutes to do it. Oh, and some airport employee actually *audibly* laughed at me while I was running. I would have stopped to say something nasty to her, but I didn't have time.

Our last flight was so turbulent, they never got up to serve drinks and we weren't allowed to go to the bathroom. TV Boy slept the whole way. I clung to the seat for dear life.

Needless to say, I'm thinking another 11 year hiatus from flying (which until our trip to Disney last year, was my record) is in order for me. Or Xanax.

Mommy needs a break today!

TV Mom goes Pony!

Via General Zoi's Deviantart pony creator app.

The countdown until the My Little Pony Coronation Concert event is on... just three more days until the event, and only 2 more until I brave a cross-country, multiple-layover flight with a 3 year old by myself! I'm really excited! (Oh yeah, that's me as a pony up there. You can click the link in the caption to make your own. Yes, she has a TV as her cutie mark. I felt it was appropriate. And yes, my hair is really that color!)

If you haven't been on my Facebook Page lately, then you'll want to see what exciting thing showed up in my mail today...

That, my Bronies and Pegasisters, is the screener copy of the already-controversial coronation episode. It's a cute little storybook. TV Boy went nuts and had me read it (it's all of 4 board-book style pages) as soon as I opened it. It definitely has made me more excited for my trip this weekend.

My full write up (spoiler-free version) will be up on my About.com page soon, and then I'll amend it after the episode airs. Also, be sure to watch this weekend on the Facebook page and my @TheTVMom twitter account (links to both are in the side bar), because I'm planning to live-blog the entire Coronation Event! I even got an iPad so I can travel more easily (my Macbook Pro is kind of cumbersome on airplanes, trust me).

Until then, pony on!
