The BIG Coronation Concert!

From my Instagram.
So, did you follow along on Instagram with my live-blogging of my first major media event? Barring a harrowing journey home on Sunday (which included our second plane being just a little bit hit by lightning! Yikes!), it was the most incredible thing I've been a part of to date. Heck, it was worth the 12 hours and three planes worth of flying on two separate days just to see Halle Berry's daughter hitting her mother in the face with a plastic wand like my own child was doing to me while we all wore plastic tiaras. Or to see Jason Priestly tell the photographers that he answers to his son above all while they wore adorable matching argyle sweaters.

I bet you want to know what it was like. Well, you're going to have to check out my About.com article for all the details. TV Boy had a blast and everyone commented on how adorable his "My Little Brony" t-shirt was.

Now, for the details of the trip... we left Columbus on Friday at about 1:30 EST, and landed in Burbank, CA at 9:30 PST. Other than a minor mishap with TV Boy and I not being seated together on the second plane trip (there was a total of three each way), and us being seated next to the lavatory on the tiniest plane I've ever been on for the last leg, the trip was mostly uneventful.

The way back, however, makes me wish that Star Trek transporters were already invented and I never had to fly again. Let's see... the first flight of the day, other than being at stupid-o'clock (take-off time of 7:15 am PST), was uneventful. The second plane.... hoo boy! We took off in a snow storm. We were seated next to a guy who smelled like tuna salad (gag!) and was so tall he barely fit in the seat, so we couldn't get up. Then, about 20 minutes before we landed amidst a thunderstorm in Atlanta, our plane was hit by lightning and we just straight dropped for about 2 seconds. TV Boy thought it was the most fun ride EVER and me, well, let's just say I'll probably need to be sedated should I ever have to fly somewhere again. Take-off for the last leg of the trip in the same storm was equally terrifying, and I was exhausted on top of it all because we had to run from one end of the Atlanta airport to the other... literally. Landed in T1 terminal, took off from the last door in the E terminal. Yes, I know there's a train in the airport, but it didn't help! I was lugging two suitcases and a small child.

Yes, landed in T1, connected in E35!
To top that lovely run off, I had 20 minutes to do it. Oh, and some airport employee actually *audibly* laughed at me while I was running. I would have stopped to say something nasty to her, but I didn't have time.

Our last flight was so turbulent, they never got up to serve drinks and we weren't allowed to go to the bathroom. TV Boy slept the whole way. I clung to the seat for dear life.

Needless to say, I'm thinking another 11 year hiatus from flying (which until our trip to Disney last year, was my record) is in order for me. Or Xanax.

Mommy needs a break today!

  1. Wow, that sounds like an exciting trip! That Atlanta airport is huge and a pain to navigate for sure. I've traveled through it a few times with kids in tow. Glad you made it back safely!
